GETTING AROUND

TRAVEL

We are celebrating our love on Saint Martin, a Caribbean island split between the French side (Saint-Martin) and the Dutch side (Sint Maarten). Here is some travel information:

Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM)

Located on the Dutch side (Sint Maarten), this is the main airport and serves both sides of the island. It has direct flights from major cities in North America, Europe, and other Caribbean islands.

Airlines like American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, Air France, and KLM have regular flights.

Tips for Planning Your Trip

Check Flights Early: Even though the island is usually easy to access, as we`re having the wedding off-season you might have to check for the dates of your flights.

Consider Direct Flights: If available, direct flights are the most convenient option.

Generally the following Airports have direct flights.

from the US

Atlanta

Charlotte

Chicago

Miami

Fort Lauderdale

New York

Philadelphia

Washington

Boston (seasonal)

Newark (seasonal)

from Europe

Amsterdam

Paris

Local Transportation: Once on the island, renting a car is one of the best way to explore.

Entry Requirements

Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.

Visa: Check the visa requirements for your nationality. US, Canadian, and EU citizens generally do not need a visa for short stays.

Where to Stay

Saint Martin offers a wide variety of possibilities for your stay. Of course everyone is free to chose whatever they like but we have some suggestions for you.

If you want to stay in one of the beautiful villas/apartments around the island, we would recommend you reach out to Sotheby's Saint Martin, you can also email them directly at reservations@StMartinsothebysrealty.com. Let them know your with us and they will find you something wonderful. We'd also like to mention Lesley, a very close family friend and the owner, is lending her beautiful home for our wedding. So a very special shout out to Lesley for playing such an important part of this day.

If people prefer staying in a hotel rather than a villa, we can recommend the Simpson Bay resort on the Dutch part of the island. If you're looking for more low-costs options feel free to reach out!

Some additional information:

The wedding itself will be at Villa Jasper, which is located in Terres Basses on the French side. We therefore recommend that you stay in Terres Basses (also known as the lowlands) or near Maho or Simpson bay and avoid booking anywhere on the other side of the island (East/North side) to avoid too far of a drive. We're also looking into shuttles from Terres Basses, Maho and Simpson Bay, so if you're staying in one of those areas you could get a shuttle to the wedding venue.

And if you don't feel like any of these options please reach out to us and we figure something out together :)

Things to do (in SXM and around)

As Saint Martin isn`t right around the corner for most, you might want to add a few days of holidays before or after. Here a few suggestions:

Saint Martin offers lots of activities and experiences for visitors, ranging from beautiful beaches to cultural attractions and adventurous excursions. The surrounding islands (like Anguilla and St. Barths - there's ferries from St. Martin) also have unique attractions worth exploring.

Things to Do in Saint Martin

Beaches

Maho Beach: Famous for its proximity to Princess Juliana International Airport, where planes fly low over the beach.

Orient Bay: A popular beach with great restaurants, beach bars, and water sports.

Mullet Bay: Known for its beautiful white sand and clear waters, ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

Plum Bay: One of Margaux's personal favorites, remote beach on the French side.

Bay Rouge: Also one of Margaux's personal favorites and on the French side.

Activities and Attractions

Loterie Farm: A nature reserve offering hiking, zip-lining, and treetop adventure courses.

Fort Louis: Historic fort offering panoramic views of Marigot and the surrounding area.

Butterfly Farm: A tropical garden with numerous species of butterflies, perfect for a family visit.

Water Sports: Jet skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, and paddleboarding are popular around the island.

Shopping and Dining

Marigot Market: Local market where you can buy fresh produce, spices, crafts, and souvenirs.

Philipsburg Boardwalk: Lined with shops, restaurants, and bars, offering a lively atmosphere.

Gourmet Restaurants: Restaurant recommendations to come :)

We hope you enjoy visiting this magical place :)

GETTING AROUD

Public transport is not necessarily the strongsuit of the island. We would therefor recommend renting a car from one of the many car rental places on the island. You find big companies as easy as smaller rental firms.

For Taxi services check out

https://www.wearesxm.com/transport/taxi-dispatch/ which has a great variety of drivers you can use for your stay. We might see to get some kind of shuttle service going for the day of the wedding, so stay tuned.
